RISQS registration and audit costs
RISQS charges an annual membership fee based on the number of RICCLRailway Industry Commodity Classification ListThe standard list the rail industry uses to classify products, services and materials. Selecting your codes is how you define the scope of work for which your organisation seeks qualification, and buyers use the codes to find suppliers. Your codes influence which audit requirements apply, but they are not the only factor: buyer requirements and where you will work can also matter. you select. Where an audit applies, it is charged separately, by the audit day.
The rates below are the RISQS published rates effective from 6 April 2026, excluding VAT. RISQS may change its charges, so confirm the current charges directly with RISQS before making a commercial commitment.
These charges are separate from the wider cost of preparing your organisation to work in rail, which is covered further down this page.

About these rates
Rates shown are the published RISQS rates applicable at the time this guide was last reviewed and may be subject to change. Confirm current charges directly with RISQS before proceeding.
Audit costs depend on audit days
The audit day rate is charged per audit day. The number of audit days depends on the scope of your audit and is set through RISQS. This guide does not estimate audit duration, so it does not calculate a total audit cost.
Membership period
RISQS membership lasts a year. It starts when the initial membership fee is paid and renews automatically on each anniversary of that date. Membership on its own does not mean your organisation has been audited: where an audit applies, it is arranged and charged separately.
Supplier Patron
Supplier Patron is an optional level that suppliers can add to their membership; it is not an automatic charge for every supplier. It gives limited access to information about other suppliers in the scheme, searchable by RICCL code or supplier name. The RISQS sources checked for this guide do not state exactly when or how the Supplier Patron charge applies alongside the membership fee, so confirm this with RISQS.
The wider cost of preparing
RISQS charges may be only part of the cost of obtaining and maintaining the assurance relevant to your scope. Depending on your organisation and the work you do, you may also need to budget for some of the following. This guide does not price these costs because they vary widely.
Competence and training
Training, assessment and refresher costs for the competences your roles need.
Sentinel-related arrangements
Where you sponsor people under Sentinel, the cost of administering sponsorship and the checks that go with it.
CIRAS
Confidential reporting arrangements such as CIRAS membership, where they apply to you.
Drugs and alcohol arrangements
Testing arrangements and the administration that supports them, where your work needs them.
Occupational health
Health surveillance and fitness for work assessments, where your roles need them.
Management system development
Time and resources to develop, implement and maintain your arrangements.
Specialist support
External advice or support, where you choose to use it.
Planning your route into rail
Harcon Solutions can support organisations at any point on this journey, in proportion to where they are now.
